What is the max cassette for Ultegra rear derailleur? ›

If you have a Shimano Ultegra R8000 rear derailleur with a short derailleur cage which has a max drivetrain capacity of 35T, then this is sufficient and you don't need to change anything.

It can be used with 11-28t cassettes up to the company's wide-range 11-34t model. In terms of chainring range, the maximum difference between large and small chainrings is 16t.

Cassette options with Ultegra 6800 now range from 11-23t to its climber-friendly 11-32t.

I can confirm that you can run the 105 di2 RD and a 11-30 ultegra cassette. I am doing it on my bike I just built up. You will need to use the ultegra spacing guide and not the 105 one, or just eyeball it to set the b-screw amount to account for the smaller cassette. Otherwise works perfectly.
